Think about your financial future when deciding between a traditional pension and a savings plan retirement focused. If you don't know where will you actually retire, a retirement focused savings plan might make the most sense. You also may want to consider splitting your retirement into two separate accounts, one where you save into regularly and one where you park as lump sum your annual bonuses.

Pay down credit cards before other debt. High interest rates can be killer, and can negatively affect your credit score. This can create a downward spiral of debt that can take decades to make right.

Think long and hard before buying a house. Buying a house before you're financially and otherwise ready can result in negative financial effects down the line. Also, buying in a volatile property market, comes with a lot of risk, many seeing their properties in negative equity at some points in time (the debt to the bank is higher than a potential sell value).

Consider your life insurance policy. If you don't have a family yet, you may not need a large policy. If you have a spouse and/ or children, it makes sense to pay toward a higher policy to keep them safe.

Invest now. If you have an emergency fund tucked away, it's time to put your additional savings to work. An investment advisor can help you decide when and how to invest.
